I drive about 700 mi/week and change it every 5K.

I have an oil meter. It takes about 12-15,000 miles to trigger the oil change warning. I change it when it is at 50%.

My 2012 Chevrolet Sonic has an Oil Life Monitor, but for me GM mandates a maximum one year mark. I also use high quality oil filters. I am a low mileage driver and rarely drive in heavy traffic. Also of note, I change my own oil to assure it is per the manufacturer's recommendations.
