Where I live Shell is the most expensive station but I always see people buying fuel there even when another brand across the street is as much as 15 to 20 cents cheaper. It usually is only a 5-10 cent spread but i have seen it at the 20 cent spread. Just wondering if there are a lot on this site that are loyalty to one brand.

I usually shop wherever is cheapest. Usually that is Costco in my area. Although I get a fair amount at BP.

I buy Sunoco when I can. After that, it depends on where I am. In the midwest, I'll use Shell and in the West, Conoco.

I used to be a Chevron fan but now they choose to stick out like a price-gouging sore thumb in my area.

The Chevron 5 blocks from me is @ FOUR EIGHTY FIVE (!!!) while everything else is around $3.40. Needless to say, it's not exactly jammed w/ customers; WTF are they thinking???

When the gas prices went beyond $3, that's it I would go to the one I know gives me the best price. Knowing about having gasbuddy on your smartphone, priceless. Never looked back.

I own a small business, and I appreciate that my customers are loyal and come to me to have work done, even if it is cheaper to go somewhere else.

Following with that same logic, I am loyal to a few of different stations for different reasons. Two of them allow me to pump first, then pay, which shows mew that the station owner trust the people who come in and buy fuel, and the other is the location. Little things, but they do make a difference. When I am only saving a penny or two per gallon, the total amount saved is only 15 to 20 cents per fill-up. I would hope that my customers wouldn't hire someone new over a bid that was higher than the next guy's by less than a dollar.

Locally, it is Shell. No Matter What, it is Nearly Always a TOP TIER brand. Rarely anything else. Marathon is O.K.

The Shell stations here are very competitive, generally only 4 to 5¢ more per gallon than the Cheapest Discounters. The difference in price is MORE that made up by the 15 percent increase in Fuel Mileage. Planning your Fill-Ups for Thursdays sweetens the deal, when many of the Shells do the 5¢ Per Gallon Discount all day for gasoline. That generally makes the Shell price the same OR LESS than any other Discounter. In Addition, the Kroger Grocery chain has a deal where you can accumulate points to get a maximum of $1.00 off per gallon -- one deal per month for a max of 35 gallons -- using your Kroger card at any Shell we have ever used. Time the purchase to get 5¢ off on Thursday, PLUS the Kroger discount and we fill up 2 vehicles or the truck and cans.

Out of state and going West of VA, we like Conoco or Phillips66, as Conoco-Phillips is the same company and a Top Tier. We signed up for the Shell Fuel Rewards many years ago. We save them for our road trips, as Shells out-of-state tend to be 8 to 12¢ plus more than other stations. That being said, we have found many Shells -- or other Top Tiers -- by using GasBuddy, at places less than 1/2 mile off the Interstate that sell for the same price as local competitors. A 1/2 mile is nothing to save 5 to 10 bucks a tank. We have them all plugged into the GPS. We check GasBuddy and plan the trip to max our savings.

The differences in brand prices in the local market are so minimal it's not worth checking prices. I use Petro-Canada for the rewards.

I happen to go to the same BP station because (1) it's close; (2) it's the cheapest; and (3) convenient in the sense that it's central to all other places I have to travel to.
