Easter petrol sales were down by almost a third on last year in the wake of recent panic buying, retailers say.Well so many drivers filled up their fuel tanks before Easter, most of the garages sales dropped by a third. Having driven in England recently myself ( cost over one hundred pounds to fill the rental car fuel tank! ) I noticed driver were driving slower and more carefully. I have just driven a 700 mile return trip to up state New York this Easter. I drove in a little more fuel efficient manner and did 3mpg more than I have managed before in the same car/same trip. Sorry, but what's the point of this thread?

First, the reason that Easter sales were down was because people filled up the in the days before Easter when they might have otherwise bought fuel over the next several days, in anticipation of a strike by fuel tank drivers. All they did was change their buying day.

And there was poor, wintry weather.

That doesn't sound like something that has any short term effect, let alone a long term effect. Nor does it sound like a real slump in fuel sales.

If you drive like a grandma, then, yes, sure, you can get some really good mpg, I agree with that.

That said, to survive where I live, driving like a grandma gets me run over.
