Ford, GM recall cars, SUVs over faulty wipers............

April 11, 2012

Nearly 25,000 vehicles affected in Canada.....

Both Ford and General Motors are recalling thousands of cars in Canada over windshield wipers that could fail unexpectedly.

Ford is recalling 19,062 Ford Focus cars from the 2012 model year over a loose seal that could let dirt into the wiring harness hooked up to the passenger side wiper motor.

A wiper that won't work could lead to reduced visibility, and maybe a crash. Dealers will inspect, clean and then reseal the wiper motor connector, or replace inoperative motors.General Motors is recalling 5,810 SUVs over wiper arms that may loosen if the wiper blade is stuck to the windshield with snow or ice.

Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia models from 2012 and 2011 are affected.

In some of those vehicles, the wiper arm nut may loosen if the blade is weighed down or blocked from moving; once loose, the wiper may not work.
