Your one question is actually two. Yes, I change the engine oil myself. No, I do not change it every six months. I change the original "break-in" oil at 1,000 miles. Thereafter, I use the GM oil life system and change it at 5% or 1 year whichever is sooner. I always change the oil filter with the oil. Also, I use synthetic oil.

I would not say it is every 6 months either. It depends on which vehicle. I can go longer on my truck and work car since they are not every day vehicles. My wifes car is less than 6 months.
