That HR by Pujols blew his mind, didn't it. I still would have taken him in a heartbeat.

Nice to see that Lidge is back to being the lights-out closer that he was before the Pujols HR in the '05 NLCS. But it's too late for Astros fans.

Phils have the best closer in baseball. I figure that Lidge is the MVP of Phillies team. Without him they end up like the last 30 years. Sure wish the Cards had him on their roster....

Cs you left the biggest winning team off your list...the Angels in '09.
Rays behind again but like in Boston band box Phills park is same and big TB bats should get it back! Got to win game 2 though! Go RAYS this year.

rkt wgn, considering the magnitude of the comeback, it's no wonder the announcers were excited. Of course Chip Carey has been pretty excited by every Rays HR the whole series. Yes, they get at least one more game, so they should get a bigger check.
I also was a little disgusted with the split screen interview for 5-10 minutes with ex-Rays and current Phils GM. At least he was wise enough to not totally count the Sox out at that point.

Did anyone notice how happy the Announcers were when the Red Sox won the game. Wonder if there is a bigger check in the mail.....

And now watch the program directors at Fox jump off buildings and bridges at the prospect of a Rays/Phils WS. No Bosox/Dodger Manny Series. No big-ticket Bosox (unless they come back), Yank-Me's, Cubs, Mets, or Dodgers. Gee, isn't that too bad?
I have no problem with new blood in the postseason. TB has a chance to complete the most improbable run ever after years of futility. Phillies have a chance to bring a title to a city that hasn't seen one in 25 years. That's good enough billing for me.

yep, scotte, the sox look like they're in trouble. on the other hand, they're still playing. and they have a track record of come-backs in the post-season, unlike some other teams that can hardly even win games, let alone get out of the first round (but I'm not mentioning any team specifically . . . ) ;-P

mamiwaza it won't come from those washed up red sux! Still pulling for Joe Torre to pull the reverse drama from 2004 and come back to crush the phils. Go Angels in 2009!

Now that both Chi-town teams are out, I'm hoping for the Rays, since I like rooting for the underdog.
The biggest ratings-grabbing WS would be Dodgers/Red Sox, especially with Manny. But I can't root for L.A. since I hate Manny.

well, half of my prediction is still alive (Cubs v. Rays), but now I have to root against that half because the home-town team is still in the hunt. hard to call the Dodgers - Phillies series - I think the Phillies are a better team on paper, but the Dodgers really seem to have momentum on their side - should be an interesting series. and the Rays v. Red Sox promises to be a brawl - woo hooo play off baseball!!

Angels answered the wake up call, and put up a good fight (another exciting game) but more defensive lapses cost them again. Red Sox win, on to Tampa Bay!

It seems like the cultures of winning and losing in the postseason won't change, no matter how well the teams did in the regular season.
Since coming back from the dead vs. the Yankees, the Bosox can't seem to lose.
The Angels can't seem to beat Boston.
And since the '03 "Bartman" game, the Cubs can't seem to win ANY games and have been colossal chokers!
This is TB's first trip, so they're an unknown.
I wish the first round was a best of 7, instead of 5.

Well, Manny didn't kill the Cubs last night. Dempster's walks and Loney's slam killed them.
But I couldn't believe Manny's blast. That pitch was almost in the dirt!

I'm a Soxsider first, so my preference is the ChiSox, slightly ahead of the Cubs. But I do want to see the Cubs get off the 100-year schneid. The Rays and the Brewers are who I'd want to see win next.
Although I like Joe Torre, the Dodgers are the team I want to see win the least, mainly because I can't stand Manny.
With the Yankees and Cardinals out, there are no teams that I really hate.

C.S. Interesting list of most recent to oldest WS titles. With the exception of jumping the Cubs ahead of the Rays and Brew crew, my order of preference of who should win is the exact reverse.

course i could be wrong on the whole thing . . . what i really would like to see would be a Cubs - Red Sox WS -- either way you win, the Cubs finally break through, or the previously longest suffering team gets to extend the Cubs' misery - how do you lose?? ;-)

scotte,
I really blew that prediction. That is why they play the games.... On paper the Tigers should have won easily, and I thought the Mets were about due. Oh well!
By the way, I don't have a day job to quit, I'M RETIRED! WOW! The only jobs I have are honeydo's

I'd say it'll be the Phils against the Red Sox. Gotta still give the Sox profs as they are the defending champs. I believe some team could beat them but until they do, I'll say the Sox beat the Phils in 6.

Mets vs. Detroit in WS....

Big money wins again... the Rockies probably won't be back next year, because all of their talent will be sucked away to the east coast high dollars. Yankees, Red Sox, Mets.

OMG! Can't believe the Rocks had all that luck and then the WAIT!!! & now Dice K finally starts to get to look like a pitcher. Big game pitcher nominee with Shill & MVP Josh Beckett...the table setter! C'mon Rocks make it a series. Maybe like Red Sux did to Yanks in '04.

I can't help but think that the Red Sox will be in the WS. I sure hope the long layoff doesn't hurt the Rockies...
