Since there's no specific topic for GM as a whole, I figured that since Chevrolet was their largest brand this would be as good as any.

They're having to go back and fix financial results through 2000 (that usually means "they didn't make as much as they thought") and it looks like their 2005 Form 10-K (the version of the annual report they file with the Securities and Exchange Commission, no pretty pictures is the main difference) is going to be delayed.

While I don't directly have any GM stock (I have some mutual funds that have GM holdings), a GM bankruptcy would have a major effect -- even if they end up closing nothing more than they've announced already. I cringe just thinking about it, but I'm not going to rush out and buy one to try to keep them in business!

It was bad news, good news for GM last month.

Bad news for GM: Sales of Chevrolet products fell 15% last month.

Good news for GM: Sales of the new Chevy Tahoe was strong on constant advertising (it still rings in my ears when I'm away from a TV set). Cadillac, Hummer, Saab, and Buick sales all rose.

Jaybirdflu squawked in its shrill voice:

>thats what you are good for... all show and no go...

It was confirmed in the press this morning that they're indeed escorting people off the premises.

GM apparently decided that a minimum of 60 days severance was better than complying with The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

On the other hand, I doubt it was much of a surprise given the fact that GM has been hemmorhaging cash.

Rumor and raw random data reports elsewhere indicate that all salaried GM employees tomorrow have been directed to:
#1 - Be at work (cancel your vacation)
#2 - Bring in your company cars

Out in the street? :-(

The morning WSJ has an article about Jerome York, the newest director at GM.

Maybe he would be a good turnaround leader. After all, he's done it twice before: Once for Chrysler, once for IBM.

>we need to remember to buy American vehicles.

Why should we buy what everyone outside the Detroit establishment considers to be an inferior product?
