Fracking Tied to Unusual Rise in Earthquakes in U.S.

Bloomberg -- A spate of earthquakes across the middle of the U.S. is “almost certainly” man-made, and may be caused by wastewater from oil or gas drilling injected into the ground, U.S. government scientists said in a study.

Researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey said that for the three decades until 2000, seismic events in the nation’s midsection averaged 21 a year. They jumped to 50 in 2009, 87 in 2010 and 134 in 2011.

Those statistics, included in the abstract of a research paper to be discussed at the Seismological Society of America conference next week in San Diego, will add pressure on an energy industry already confronting more regulation of the process of hydraulic fracturing.

They just keep on saying that there are no problems with fracking. Yet we keep hearing reports all the time of the well water contamination and these earthquakes. And the way the technology works, it's absolutely no way it could not cause shifting (and shaking). So I say quit fracking around and start putting the money in producing cheaper green fuels (and I don't mean ethanol!!!).

Never heard of earth quakes in north Texas before the drilling started in the Barnett shale. Now it's happening every few weeks.

This is the agenda of the liberal progressives and environmental nuts are pushing. If the truth hit them in the face they wouldn't know it.

they need to re-examine the Denver area earthquakes in the early 1960's, which apparently were the result of toxic chemical wastes being pumped down a "Deep Injection Well" at the then Rocky Mountain Arsenal (today a National Wildlife Refuge located between Denver's old and new airports) in suburban Denver.
