GE unveiling charging stations for electric, hybrid vehicles

New Britain Herald -- PLAINVILLE — Last year GE Industrial Solutions unveiled a solar-powered carport to charge electric vehicles. “Imagine you have a hotel chain,” Bowler said. “You can use our software to manage the system globally.” It lets the owner set prices, monitor usage and generate reports.

The Watt Station, which is the newest of several types of chargers GE sells,

As i see this, the EV owners want to be able to go farther. They will but not as quickly. Stopping every 70 miles for a new charge will negate the gas savings.

Finally a way to bill for charging electric vehicles instead of mooching off building owners.

GE is not trying to make the economy strong but hope to get enough out there and then raise the price which forces the owner into paying more for it because he spent all that money buying an EV, loser all the way around.

So you peddle your yard sale fodder on eBay and pay for your charges from your proceeds. But then you have a couple hours to spend more money. No thank you. I think if push came to shove and I had to buy an EV I would make sure I had a high mileage turbo diesel vehicle for long trips.

I can see these stations being installed at work. However EV’s don’t have enough range for practical use on trips, so I can’t see them at hotels.

Range on most EVs isn't enough to need chargers at a hotel. Might set up charging stations at work places though.

Thinks like this are a must if we ever hope to have electric accepted by the masses, instead of the "Chosen few"
