EU to Host Talks on Opel 's Future with GM, European Governm

Detroit News - Auto Insider - AP -- The European Union will host a high-level meeting between GM and EU governments next week to discuss restructuring plans and aid for the troubled Opel unit, officials said Wednesday.

He said GM was looking for around euro3.3 billion ($4.9 billion) in loans from European governments to finance redundancies as well as restructuring. He said this was less than the euro4-5 billion required by Canadian carmaker Magna, which had bid to buy GM's European operations

I saw in a news item the other day that GM is sitting on $42.5 billion in cash. Sorry, but that seems like a lot of money to me.

GM is still poorly operated. They should have been forced to sell off Opel not use our money in Europe to save their butt. Now they want more bonus money from the Europeans to pay themselves a bonus offshore.

What kind of crap is this? I thought that the U.S. already bailed out 2 companies and that result is questionable. Next, we'll have the Asian governments bailing out Asian car companies. Oh, oh! I forgot! The Asian government already owns them.

Maybe if the GM execs concentrated on making quality vehicles instead of seeing how many millions of dollars they could steal from the company, GM might survive. I doubt it, though.
