Fracking is NOT safe - Cuomo can be bought for the right price, just like any other politician.

Gas Drilling Is Called Safe in New York? What are they thinking? There already are areas in New York that have severe ground water problems. What next? Horizontal natural gas drilling, more rock and subsurface fracking and possible pollution to the underground water resources. What happens when the ground water is deemed Not Safe and Unfit for drinking? Big Oil and Big Gas sells fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices. Big Gas transports natural gas to the refineries, processes it, loads it onto tankers for the sale to other countries. The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! These resources are Not to be exported without taking care of the domestic market first. As more and more vehicles are converted to natural gas the price of natural gas will go up and up, natural gas will Not have a reasonable price for very long. Keep natural gas for heating homes and businesses. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII! - The Day After......

@ Aviator Rob: My answer to the question of "Why would anyone be okay with that kind of uncertainty". Because the land men and drillers sell the DREAM that fracking will make everyone in town a millionaire. Signing all these folks up with leases creates the political will to move ahead with drilling. The reality is that the directional drilling on these wells can bypass the gas lease holdouts as well as the greedy who made better deals for themselves.(no check for you) ...and the gas still flows to market.

or even use up the rest of the worlds oil before needing to do this. it could be our safety net until other sources of energy are viable but people only think about today and tomorrow and no further.

I'm not ready to give up the good fight, @WanderDan. That's what the faux conservatives want. To just have the other side give up and go home.
As long as I'm still breathing, I have a dog in this fight.

@WanderDan is right. And besides, why is everyone in such a hurry to start drilling? The faster we drill, the faster all of the shale gas will be gone. It's not an unlimited resource. Let the other states conduct this experiment on their drinking water while New York sits back and watches the results.
In 10 years, Pennsylvania will be out of shale gas and New York will have just begun drilling, with even better technology and safeguards.

@ Aviator Rob... i think it is a losing battle to try to make sense with far too many people on here or sadly in our entire society. Faux news tells them anything that slows business in anyway is too liberal. While most have been convinced to side with a party that gives them "villians" to blame but don't realize they vote against their best interests. I mean you come on here and there is even alink saying obama is coming for your guns....

Cellsite says "Nothing in this world is completely safe. Just being born is 100% fatal. Keep on drillin'... " That is basically saying oh well roll the dice since nothing is completely safe. WOW! Don't do any further research just keep on drillin.... just a matter of picking a political side and then close your eyes.

i still think frackers should hav to test wells in a 5 mile radius from where they plan to drill to establish a baseline.
all states are looking @ is tax revenues.

Have to disagree, @ManOfLeisureII. In this matter, I don't believe that people are being too risk averse. The stakes are just too high. A clean and functioning aquifer is far more valuable than any shale gas that can be pulled from the ground.
Why is it that it's the most important things that we take most for granted, like clean air and water?

The analysis also rejects a broad quantitative risk assessment of fracking — the kind of study that would try to project the probability of various hazards — saying it would “involve making a large number of assumptions about the many scenario-specific variables that influence the nature and degree of potential human exposure and toxicity.”
So, basically, nobody knows what the effects of hydrofracking could do to the water, the land, and the people that live in these areas of fracking activity. Why would anyone be okay with that kind of uncertainty, especially those who could be impacted?
