Honda, Toyota fair worst in California Air Credit Market

Automotive News -- LOS ANGELES -- A new front is opening in the emerging market for electric vehicles -- not for selling cars, but for credits required to meet clean-air rules.

The burden is heaviest for Toyota, which has the largest market share in California, followed by Honda...

Tesla Motors revealed that it had sold credits to Honda Motor Co. and another automaker that it didn't identify.

Regulators expect carmakers to sell a combined 60,000 zero-emission autos in 12 states through 2014, and a cumulative total of 1.4 million by 2025.

The number of credits per vehicle depends on its range and how fast the battery can be recharged. A model with a 100-mile range and standard charging, such as a Nissan Leaf or electric Ford Focus, would generate three credits, while a long-range,...

That would be "fare," not "fair." When a journalist misspells a word, I find it difficult to give the story any credibility.

Making up your own headline for an article? The article does not state "Honda, Toyota fair worst in California Air Credit Market" as the headline. What caught my eye was "fair" when it should have been spelled "fare".

Bottom line is this: you better hope that Electric cars take off in California and New York, or you will be paying more for new cars to offset the fines!
