Sanctions Are Causing Major Headaches for Iran’s Nuclear Program -- Center For American Progress

War News Update -- 6 Reasons Why the Obama Administration’s Iran Strategy Is the Best Way Forward

This is the second in a six-part series explaining why the United States should continue to pursue an integrated strategy of diplomacy and tough economic sanctions to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. It builds on the recent Center for American Progress report, “Strengthening America’s Options on Iran.” Each piece in the series looks at reasons why diplomacy is an effective approach to achieving this end.
This week we look at how current sanctions are crippling Iran’s economy and hindering its ability to advance its nuclear program.

We need to keep the pressure on Iran for this to work. Only an insane leadership would wreck their constituents lives so obviously due to a policy decision (admission to the nuclear club). If Iran doesn't change course this whole situation will resolve itself in one of two violent ways. The first way involves violence inflicted on Iran from outside. The second way is the violence will be self-inflicted by enough Iranians desiring a policy change. If Iran actually manages to join the nuclear club without violence (highly unlikely) then the world will double-down on the sanctions and isolate Iran as never before. I don't think it will come to the last scenario. As much as it upsets me to say it, I feel the choice in violence described above is much more likely. I just do not understand the Iranian leadership's goals insofar as Iran itself is perceived by the world nor do I understand a population so apathetic to allow themselves to be ruled by those so oriented toward a goal that is so obviously questioned by the rest of the world.

The World needs the sanctions to work to bring a rogue nation into compliance with the nuclear non proliferation treaty.
